Dr. S. Sowmya, is a renowned Carnatic music vocalist. In 2019, she was honored with the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi title by the Madras Music Academy, followed by the Isai Perarignar title by the Tamil Isai Sangam in 2022.Notably, she serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr J Jayalalithaa Music & Fine Arts University since April 8, 2022. Alongside her musical prowess, Dr. Sowmya holds a Ph.D. from the University of Madras and an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. She has graced stages worldwide and has been a prominent figure in various musical reality-talent shows, also co-founding Carnatica, an institution dedicated to classical music and dance instruction.
